DHANUSHA, April 5: As the May 14 local level election is nearing, the preparations are on the go in Tarai districts.
Although Madhes-based political parties have issued conditional threats to disrupt the polls, the villages in the areas in particular are preparing for them taking place after a gap of more than one and a half decades.
Those political parties that are intensifying their election-related programmes and events include major political parties Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Prajatantra Party and other ones including Naya Shakti Party Nepal and Desbhakta Ganatantrik Morcha.
The Maoist Dhanusa chapter is working to select candidates through gatherings of party cadres in various municipalities and rural municipalities, said Maoist Centre standing committee member Mahadev Yadav.
However, the announcement by the Dhanusha District Election Office that favourable environment was yet to be created for election-related preparations in the district has left the parties in preparations in dilemma.
"Prospective candidates are in the state of wait and see due to the election office's announcement," said Bibekananda Mishra, President of the Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal, Dhanusha.
Although the election office has finalised the voter list for the district, setting location for polling stations is yet to be reviewed.
