MORANG, Sept 5:  A woman in her late pregnancy died in Biratnagar after failing to get admission in hospitals in Biratnagar.

According to family sources, 23 years old Sabina Thapa from Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-5 died after the hospitals in Biratnagar refused to admit her.

The deceased had lost balance and fallen while going to the bathroom on Tuesday night. After her health deteriorated, she was taken to Biratnagar for further treatment on Wednesday, according to her sister-in–law, Durga Sundas. “We went to six of the so-called renowned hospitals in Biratnagar hoping for medical attention and care but not a single one of them was ready to admit her.”

“She was then taken to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Science but we could not save her. She would have lived, if only she had received treatment in time,” Sundas further lamented.

Earlier, the Chief District Officer of Morang, Kosh Hari Niraula, had directed all the hospitals administrations, doctors and health workers in the district to admit all kinds of patients and provide services efficiently. He had also warned of legal punishment to those defying his orders. But a pregnant woman died just two days after his direction.

Koshi Hospital, Birat Teaching Hospital, Nobel Hospital, Birat Nursing Home and Green Cross Hospital refused to admit Sabina, according to Durga Sundas.
