GANDAKI, March 28: President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived in Pokhara to inaugurate the first national conference of the judicial committees of the local governments across the country. The Head-of-State landed here on a Nepal Army (NA) helicopter.
Upon her arrival at the touristic town, she was welcomed by Gandaki Province Chief Prithviman Gurung, Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali, Gandaki province government ministers, former minister Padma Aryal, Province Assembly members and Pokhara metropolis deputy- mayor Manjudevi Gurung.

According to the deputy mayor who is also the chief of the judicial committee here, representatives of the judicial committees of all the 753 local governments across the country have been invited to the event.
Article 217 of the Constitution has guaranteed the presence of a three-member judicial committee in every local government under the convenorship of the vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities and of the deputy mayors of municipalities, sub metropolises and metropolises to exercise power to hear cases, as entrusted to the local government. The committee aims to ensure the people’s easy access to justice.
