Sita, who is also known as Janaki, Baidehi and Janakanandini among others, is believed to possess incredible strength and wealth of knowledge. She was married off to Lord Ram, believed to be the 10th  incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Hindu Mythology.

President Bhandari, in her message, stated that it was a matter of pride for Nepal and Nepalis that Sita, an epitome of ideal woman, belongs to Nepal.

Bhandari expressed her confidence that may this day inspire us all to end all kinds of gender, social and cultural prejudices and disparity and encourage us to build a progressive, civilized and well-cultured society.

Sita is believed to originate in the farmland when Mithila's King Janak performed yagya ritual and ploughed the land in Treta Yug as per Valmiki Ramayana.
