Press Council seeks clarification with 18 media houses

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Press Council Nepal has sought clarification from 17 media outlets for disseminating information that caused panic among people.

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Press Council Nepal has sought clarification from 17 media outlets for disseminating information that caused panic among people.


Issuing a press statement, PCN sought clarification why the media including some YouTube channels used incendiary words which could foment terror among people. Stating that it was against PCN's code of conduct, the PCN asked these media to furnish clarification within 24 hours on why they spread rumour and misinformation.

The Nepal Police's Cyber Bureau has been written to the PCN to investigate such media and make the media take down the content that violates the code of conduct.


The contents that spread rumor, foment conflict, violence and hatred and violate decency are against the media code of conduct, the PCN reminded.


The PCN also urged all media persons and internet users not to be involved in the activities that spread hatred and violence, and breach individual privacy.
