KATHMANDU, Feb 3: The Press Council Nepal has urged the entire media world to produce and disseminate news only after adequate testing of facts and credibility.
Mentioning that some media outlets have published misleading news related to COVID-19, Press Council Nepal has drawn the attention of media houses to publish news only after testing the facts and credibility.
Righting the wrongs
Chairman of the Press Council Nepal, Bal Krishna Basnet said that every media house should check and analyze the facts as well as meanings properly after translating any news.
He said that the news Omicron will end the COVID-19 pandemic which even quoted the World Health Organization (WHO) is false and sought clarification from the news organization and its publishing house.
Similarly, Chairman Basnet also said that the concerned media has expressed its commitment not to repeat the mistake in the future while furnishing clarification to the council.
Likewise, the WHO office in Nepal has also clarified that there was no truth in the news titled “Omicron will end the COVID-19 pandemic: WHO” published on January 24.
