KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Even as Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel claimed that the government had stopped the process of granting affiliations to new private colleges to run various courses under the CTEVT, and computer applications and business management courses, several new colleges have started the enrollment process in the new courses.
A press statement issued by Minister Pokharel’s personal secretariat on January 2 claimed that Minister Pokharel has not issued any new affiliation to private colleges under the Center for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and other universities after assuming office. The statement also claimed that the ministry had put on hold the process of issuing affiliation to run bachelor in computer applications and bachelor in business management programs under the Tribhuvan University (TU) until further notice.

Around 500 affiliations including 116 for Bachelor in Computer Applications and eight for Bachelor in Business Management under the TU in September, affiliation for 358 short course programs under the CTEVT after February 2018 to private institutes and affiliations to eight private colleges under the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Chitwan were issued on July 4. The current government led by KP Oli was formed in early 2018.
Out of the eight colleges that were granted affiliations by the AFU on July 4, seven colleges have already started the enrollment process, according to AFU officials. “Seven out of eight colleges have been enrolling students,” said Dr Ishwari Kadariya, Associate Professor at the Department of Animal Breeding and Biotechnology under AFU and Director, Center for Biotechnology.
According to the Information and Research Division of the CTEVT, the private colleges, which received affiliations in 2018 to run short-term courses under the CTEVT, have already started enrollment process for the first time.
