Province 5 Assembly meeting adjourned following obstruction of opposition party

BUTWAL, Oct 5: The Province 5 Assembly meeting has been adjourned after lawmakers of the main opposition party Nepali Congress picketed the rostrum of the assembly on Monday afternoon.

BUTWAL, Oct 5: The Province 5 Assembly meeting has been adjourned after lawmakers of the main opposition party Nepali Congress picketed the rostrum of the assembly on Monday afternoon.


The meeting of the Provincial Assembly had been called this afternoon to hold further discussion on the government’s proposal to name Province 5 as Lumbini and establish its permanent capital in Dang.

Leaders and cadres belonging to the main opposition party and locals in Butwal have been staging a series of protests against the government's decision since Sunday.


Earlier today, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had issued whip to its provincial lawmakers to cast their votes in favor of the proposal to keep Lumbini as the name of the province and Dang as its permanent capital.
