TERHATHUM, Jan 9: As part of a public housing program (PHP), 50 houses are being built in Terhathum to rehabilitate families of poor, marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Currently, this project is being conducted under the District Coordination Committee (DCC). In order to make sure that no real victim gets deprived of a shelter, the DCC has chosen to build at least one underprivileged settlement in each local unit.
NRA hands over reconstruction work to authorities concerned
According to the Urban Development and Building Division Office (UDBDO), Dhankuta, the line ministry has already provided the first and second tranche of the grant for the construction of the houses. Jamuna Sarki of Myanglung-4, who spent so many years under a tent in her field, says she is glad that she will finally get to live in a concrete house. She expressed her gratefulness to the government for providing grant for the construction of her house. UDBDO, Dhankuta has been conducting PHP in Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha districts. Those selected for this program will be provided with a total amount of Rs 350,000 in installments.
Shantila Nepali of the same village says she will no longer have to worry about guests coming to her home for stay as her new home is soon to be completed.
Earlier, there used to be no space in her tent to for the guests. PHP has provided not only shelter to the poor and marginalized, but also employment to a lot.
In Menchyayam Rural Municipality, altogether eight houses are being constructed under PHP. This has created employment opportunities for many locals. Eight Dalit households in Myanglung Municipality, four in Phedap Rural Municipality, two in Aathrai Rural Municipality, nine in Chathar Rural Municipality, eight each in Menchayayam and Laligurans Municipality are under construction in the district under PHP.
