KATHMADNU, Dec 16: Ruling Nepali Congress leader Ram Sharan Mahat has said that the local level elections should be held by putting off the constitution amendment proposal for the time being.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday organized by Reporters' Club, Mahat said, “The constitution amendment proposal should be taken to a logical end. It should be dealt with under the constitutional process but it is wrong to obstruct the parliament in protest of the proposal.”

He said that it is wrong for the CPN-UML to obstruct discussion on the amendment bill.

“In order to end the stalemate in parliament, we should put off the amendment bill for a while and hold local elections,” he added.

Stating that it was inappropriate to withdraw the amendment bill, he said that the election related laws should be endorsed and the date for the elections should be announced.
