MELAMCHI, Aug 4: A large number of earthquake survivors in Sindhupalchowk is still living in makeshift shelters, battling against monsoon rains.
Quake survivors of one of the hardest-hit districts feel insecure in their makeshift shelters as the incidents of monsoon-triggered landslide are common. Besides, rainwater enters their makeshift shelters putting everything in a mess, said a teacher Narayan Giri of Palchowk VDC. Sub-standard temporary shelters are not even enough to protect us from rains, he said.

However, they are waiting for house rebuilding grants promised by the government for quake survivors to be deposited in their bank accounts.
Sange Hyalmo of Helambu said his makeshift shelter where he is living in since the country suffered the major earthquake is insufficient to protect him from rains. They complained that the government failed to understand their post-quake suffering.
Meantime, people of Gunda, Gumba, Golche and Selang, the remotest areas of district, are even unaware of the procedure to receive quake grants announced by the government. They are forced to live in open since the quake.
Over 3,000 people were killed in the district when the most powerful earthquake in the 80 years struck the country on April 25, 2015 and the district was the epicenter of its one(among two) subsequent aftershocks
