KATHMANDU, March 22: National Assembly member Bimala Rai Paudyal has demanded the government's response to the police gagging youths who chanted slogans against the prime minister.
In the meeting of the upper house on Wednesday, she expressed interest in the pictures of some young people silenced by the police that were published by various newspapers and media and social networking sites on Tuesday.

"Since yesterday, in the media and social media, pictures of some young people trying to speak and some police forcefully covering their mouths, tying their necks, and thrashing them have been seen everywhere. Why did this happen, what were those young people trying to say and did the police overreact?" asked Paudyal.
Stating that the constitution gives the citizens the right to speak and freely express their opinions, she asked whether or not the police can silence those who want to speak. She further asked, "Has the Ministry of Home Affairs taken action against the policemen who do this?"
Paudyal drew the attention of the Ministry of Home Affairs to this issue and also sought the government's response.
On Tuesday, some youths were shouting slogans at a program attended by Dahal. During that time, the youths who shouted slogans against the PM were arrested by the police.
