Rabindra Mishra’s tweet comparing Afghanistan's past and present goes viral

KATHMANDU, August 17: Chairperson of Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Rabindra Mishra has tweeted an old photograph, reflecting the social status of women in Afghanistan some six decades ago. The photo which was apparently taken in the year 1960 has fuelled a debate over social media, with people comparing the war-torn country’s past and present.

KATHMANDU, August 17: Chairperson of Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Rabindra Mishra has tweeted an old photograph, reflecting the social status of women in Afghanistan some six decades ago. The photo which was apparently taken in the year 1960 has fuelled a debate on social media, with people comparing the war-torn country’s past and present.


Mishra’s tweet which came hot on the heels of the Taliban insurgents taking over Afghanistan once again has triggered a fresh debate on social media.

He tweeted, “The pain of imposing ‘progression’ without understanding the ground reality. This was the state of Afghanistan in 1960 before brothers (Afghans) got divided. This symbolically says a lot of things. ‘Progression’ was imposed due to the greed for power, and different ethnic groups got divided. Extremism rose/ foreigners fueled it and looted Afghanistan. What a country it was and what it has become now.”
