BAITADI, July 11: The rainfall coupled with storms has damaged the maize crop in various parts of Baitadi district.
The storm damaged the maize crop in different places of Dogadakedar Rural Municipality and Purchaudi Municipality. The farmers said the maize was damaged when it was time to have cob.
A local from Dogadakedar Rural Municipality, Harish Joshi, said that farmers were worried that damage to maize could cause a food crisis.

Similarly, Janak Aier said that with the heavy rainfall and storm, the maize plant is destroyed much in Purchaudi Municipality-1 and 2.
Farmer Narendra Bista from Surnaya said maize is the major crop of the district. Insects like maggots damaged the maize earlier, now the storm lashed it.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Extension Officer at Agriculture Knowledge Center in the district, Narendra Bahadur Chand, said the district is likely to harvest a reduced amount of maize this time. For the last three years, the maize production has declined in the district due to armyworms and wild animals.
