KAILALI, Jan 5: The rainfall of Sunday evening has caused a loss of Rs 40 million to 65 brick factories operating in Kailali and Kanchanpur.

Binod Kumar Shah, president of the Seti Mahakali Brick Entrepreneurs Association, said that more than Rs 40 million was lost when the raw bricks kept in the kiln soaked. “The raw bricks laid out to dry in the sun have been destroyed by the rain,” he said.

He said that all the bricks that were left to dry in the sun before being put in the kiln were destroyed by the rain water. “In previous years, it would have rained only when we finished drying the bricks in the sun and putting them in the kiln,” he told Republica.

Stating that the rain ruined the bricks, Surendra Kathayat, general secretary of the Sudurpaschim Brick Industry Entrepreneurs' Association, said, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast cloudy and rainy weather in the Far West for a few days. “Our businesses will be in trouble if that happens,” he further added.
