BANEPA, April 13: Retrofitting of earthquake-damaged houses has formally begun here after three years since the deadly tremor occurred in the country. The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) kicked off the task of retrofitting of private houses from Namobuddha Municipality-5, Falante in Kavre on Friday with support from UKaid, UNOAPS and Build Change.
Sushil Gyawali, Chief Executive Officer of NRA, said the retrofitting has been put in place to strengthen old houses and secured. "The houses made up of pebble, mud and wood which were damaged in the earthquake could be disaster-resilient if they go for retrofitting process".

He further said it has become late since a study from an engineering perspective to this effect took a long time. The task of retrofitting has been brought into action through the technology which was tested okay from different studies and experiments. It is shared that retrofitting would be done on 114 houses of the earthquake hardest-hit 14 districts and 1000 houses in other 32 districts with the support from the aid agencies.
