PANCHTHAR, March 26: The number of causalities from road accidents in Panchthar district has already reached 15 in the current fiscal year. The district, which is relatively underdeveloped in terms of road infrastructure, has been witnessing road accidents due to over-speeding, poor road condition as well as technical failure of vehicles among other reasons.
The number of causalities in the first eight months of the current fiscal year has already doubled in comparison to the number of causalities in the last fiscal year, which stood at seven deaths in total.
14 injured in Panchthar jeep accident
The current fiscal year witnessed 39 road accidents, according to District Traffic Police Office, Panchthar. Prem Kumar Shah, chief of the office, said last year there were 46 road accidents while 47 had sustained injuries.
According to the traffic office, 12 cars/jeeps, eight tractors, seven motorcycles, eight trucks and one bus were involved in road accident in the current fiscal year so far. In the last three days alone, three people died in road accidents in the district
“We have not been able to reduce the number of accidents despite adopting cautious,” said Shah. His office booked 1,696 vehicles in the current fiscal year.
