Rs. 40 million pledged for Bara-Parsa wind storm victims so far

KATHMANDU, April 6: Provincial governments, parliamentarians, political leaders, aid agencies and civil societies have provided Rs. 40 million altogether for the victims of a wind storm in Bara and Parsa districts.


Twenty-eight people were killed and more than 600 people injured in the country’s first wind storm that hit the two districts on March 31.

The pledged amount has been deposited at the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Province 2, according to Dipak Yadav, personal aide to Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut.


Three provinces, 3,5 and Sudur Paschim have pledged Rs. 10 million each to help Province 2 recover after the disaster. Likewise, the federal government has also pledged Rs. 10 million. In addition, the federal government has also assigned the Nepal Army to rebuild homes before the monsoon. Province 2 has also provided Rs. 300,000 to each of the victims as part of immediate relief.


The remaining amount has been pledged by international agencies and civil society. Parliamentarians from the Nepal Communist Party have pledged to provide a day’s income while Nepali Congress has pledged two-days income to the victims.
