Rukum district court fines ward chief for beating up woman

RUKUM, June 28: The District Court of Rukum has imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on a ward chief of East Rukum for beating up a woman a few months ago. He has also been ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 2,000 to the woman.

RUKUM, June 28: The District Court of Rukum has imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on a ward chief of East Rukum for beating up a woman a few months ago. He has also been ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 2,000 to the woman.

Jaya Kumar Budha, chief of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-11 had beaten up Jayapuri Budha of the same village. They had engaged in an altercation over the construction of a women's building, which is being constructed with financial support from the rural municipality, and the ward chief had beaten her up giving her head injury. The incident occurred on February 17 and the victim's family filed a complaint in the District Administration Office (DAO) on February 18. Later a case was filed at the district court.


District court judget Durga Bahadur Bhusal pronounced the ward chief guilty of beating up Budha and slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on him and ordered him to pay Rs 2,000 as compensation to the victim, according to Nirmala Sharma, information officer at the court.
