KATHMANDU, Feb 26: High Court Judge Dr Navaraj Thapalia and District Court Judge Ambika Niraula have been sacked. Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha dismissed Judge Thapalia and Judge Niraula based on the recommendation of the Judicial Council meeting held on Sunday.
Questioning their conduct and performance, the Judicial Council recommended their dismissal. The meeting held today has cautioned Kathmandu District Court’’s Rajkumar Koirala and ordered his transfer from Kathmandu to Mahottari.

Thapalia was accused of misusing his official position by manipulating cases at the bench of suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana and backing up for him.
According to Article 142, Section 1 (c) of the Constitution and Article 149, Section 6 (c), there is a provision to dismiss a judge of the High Court and a District Judge if they are found guilty of incompetence or misconduct.
Last year, the Judicial Council meeting decided to dismiss 5 judges. As many as 452 complaints were lodged at the Judicial Council against 290 judges working at the district and high courts. An inquiry committee was formed to investigate the serious allegations against three judges.
