KATHMANDU, April 5: A meeting of the ruling coalition held today at the official residence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba formed a preparations and monitoring committee for the upcoming local-level election scheduled for May 13.
The meeting has formed an election preparation and monitoring committee under the coordination of senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel.
Women commission forms polls gender monitoring committee
The committee has been formed under the leadership of Poudel with representatives from five parties. The members of the committee are NC General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Minister for Communications Gyanendra Karki, leaders Barshaman Pun and Dev Prasad Gurung from CPN (Maoist Center), Beduram Bhusal and Bijay Poudel from CPN (Unified Socialist), Ashok Rai and Renu Yadav from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Himal Puri from Rastriya Janamorcha .
On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba also briefed the meeting on his three-day India visit. The meeting concluded that the prime minister's visit to India was a success. It is said that the meeting also decided to have extensive interaction with the political parties, economists, planners and stakeholders on behalf of the government considering the state of the country's economy.
Earlier, a meeting of the ruling coalition held on March 31 decided to form an electoral alliance for the upcoming local election.
