Rural municipality launches ‘roof for the poor’ program

ROLPA, May 31: The Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality in eastern Rolpa has announced to launch “roof for the poor” program. Under the program the thatch roofs of the houses in the rural municipality will be replaced with tin roofs.

ROLPA, May 31: The Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality in eastern Rolpa has announced to launch “roof for the poor” program. Under the program the thatch roofs of the houses in the rural municipality will be replaced with tin roofs.


The rural municipality would soon start the project with a view to reduce fire hazard and damage by water.

According to the chairman of the rural municipality Gudendra Gharti, 200 poor households will be provided with tin roof under the program this year. “We have allocated a budget of Rs 10 million for this program,” Gharti added.


There are about 2,200 households in the rural municipality. Gharti said around Rs 80-100 million will be needed to replace all the thatch roofs in the rural municipality.
