Safe infrastructure for happiness and prosperity: Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa said that the goal of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' can only be achieved through the appropriate management of disasters. 


Addressing a program to mark 22nd National Earthquake Safety Day in the capital on Thursday, Minister Thapa expressed his confidence that the foundation for sustainable development can be laid if citizens are made aware of setting up safe infrastructures.

Also speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Kathmandu metropolis Bidhya Sundar Shakya informed that the federal government and the KMC have been giving top priority to constructing safe and sound infrastructures. "We have to bear a heavy loss due to poor infrastructures, but not because of earthquake or any other disaster."


According to the Home Ministry, an awareness campaign on earthquake is underway throughout the nation from 1st to 29th January. The ministry has instructed all the provinces, district administration offices, and 753 local levels. 


Earthquake Safety Day is observed on Magh 2 of the Nepali calendar since 1999.
