KATHMANDU, March 13: Samsung Nepal on Monday launched the ninth generation of Samsung's flagship 'Galaxy S' series smartphone in the Nepali market.
While the Samsung Galaxy S9 has dimensions of 5.8 inch super AMOLED Quad HD screen with infinity display, the S9+ has a slightly larger 6.2-inch Quad HD super AMOLED screen with infinity display. The Galaxy S9 is powered by a 4GB RAM while that for the S9+ is 6GB.
According to Samsung Nepal, although the phones are available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options, only the 64GB version will be available at the moment. This can however be expanded up to 400 GB through microSD card.

Like its predecessor models, both Galaxy S9 and S9+ have IP68 water resistance. Something that the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ boast of is their super speed dual pixel 12 MP rear camera whose lens is sensitive to light just as the human iris, giving optimum quality sharp pictures and an 8 MP front camera.
The camera performs best in both on light and dark conditions, thanks to its automatically adjusting aperture (F1.5/F2.4). Moreover, the super slow motion camera is sensitive to capture up to 960 frames per second and is automatically sensitive to motion so the camera automatically begins recording once it detects movement. These slow-motion videos can also be converted into GIFs, and users can also select background music for the videos.
Similarly, the AR Emoji function allows users to create three dimensional emojis, depicting their own self replicating one's emotions and actions such as wink, smile, wave and nods. This feature not only allows users to share their actions as an animated replica of oneself via video but also as stickers and GIFs through third party apps such as Viber and Facebook Messenger.
According to Pranay Ratna Sthapit of Samsung Nepal, the phone provides defense-standard security as it is protected by Knox 3.1 platform. It has iris scanner, facial recognition and fingerprint sensor as part of its biometric authentication system. Likewise, Samsung's platform Bixby has also been integrated into both the phone's cameras which help the users to identify objects, translate different languages and currencies in real time.
The Galaxy S9 is available for Rs 87,900, while the bigger Galaxy S9+ will retail for Rs 99,900. While preorders for the phones started from Monday itself, they will only be available in the Nepali market from March 23.
The S9+ is available in three colors namely -- Midnight Black, Lilac Purple and Coral Blue, while the S9 is only available in Midnight Black color.
