KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Supreme Court (SC) has asked the government to furnish valid reasons for declaring prohibited zones in the capital.


A single bench of SC Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai issued the show cause order on Friday. For now, the SC has upheld the government's decision.

The SC has called both the parties for a discussion on whether to grant an interim order as requested by the writ petitioner.


The Kathmandu District Administration Office issued an order on November 21 and declared a prohibited area from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwar.


Advocate Swagat Nepal filed a writ petition in the SC on November 21, mentioning that the local administration's decision to declare the area as prohibitory zone has violated the rights of citizens. The petitioner sought an interim order to scrap the decision of the local administration.
