SC stays govt plan to relocate East Rukum headquarters

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the decision of the government to relocate the headquarters of East Rukum.


Acting on a writ petition, a single bench of Justice Deepak Kumar Karki issued the order and also asked the government authorities submit their replies on the order within fifteen days.

Opposing the decision of the government to relocate the district headquarters to Golkhada from Rukumkot, the locals have called a strike in the district. 


Meanwhile, acting on another writ petition, the apex court on Thursday has sought written clarification from the government authorities on the alleged encroachment of Nepali land by Indian side in Chhapkaiya of Birgunj. 


The petitioner had requested the court's order to the government authorities to protect Nepal's border in Birgunj from neighboring India. A single bench of justice Om Prakash Mishra asked the government authorities- the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Survey and Chief of Nepal-India Border Team, Ramesh Gyawali- furnish their replies to the court within fifteen days.


Advocate Yagyamani Neupane, hailed from Taplejung District, Fungling Municipality, Ward No 9 recently had filed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the apex court order to the authorities to protect Nepal's broader by preventing the Indian authorities to install Indian pillars in Nepali land.
