KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned government authorities over giving public holiday on Poush 27 to mark Prithivi Jayanti in memory of late king Prithvi Narayan Shah who unified the princely states of Nepal into one strong nation.
A single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi summoned the authorities—the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Home Affairs—for clarification. The apex court asked the authorities to submit written explanation in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by senior advocate Surendra Bhandari.
