KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The second Nepali edition of Pinkathon, Nepal’s biggest women’s run to raise awareness about women’s health, is set to be organized in Kathmandu next month.

The Pinkathon, which originated in Mumbai in 2012, was hosted in Kathmandu last year as well.

Speaking at a press meet in the capital on Tuesday, the organizer, LazerPort, informed that the event will be held on February 24.

The chairman of Lazerport and the franchise holder of Pinkathon in Nepal, Namraj Joshi, said that the venue of the run was still not decided yet. Last year, it was held at Dasarath Stadium in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.

“The Dasarath Stadium is under reconstruction now and we have been looking at a few places in Kathmandu for the run,” Joshi said. “The venue will be decided in a day or two.”

The organizers also informed that the routes for all the categories will be decided after the venue is fixed. The run will be played in four categories.

The organizers said that the event is a movement by a growing community of empowered women to support other women, uplift them, and encourage them to lead healthy lives. Through the event, the organizers aim to highlight the need to ensure increased mental and physical well-being of women,

The Pinkathon will feature 21-km half-marathon, 10-km, five-km and three-km runs which will see the participation of women only.

The three- and five-km runs are not competitive categories. Only the 10- and 21-km events will feature professional players.

The winner of the 21-km race will take home Rs 60,000, while the runner-up will be prized with Rs 30,000. The third-placed player will get Rs 20,000. Likewise, the winner of the 10-km run will be rewarded with Rs 30,000, while the runner-up and the third-placed will get Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

The founder of Pinkathon and Indian model Milind Soman said that the sole purpose of the run was to empower women through health awareness.

“We encourage women to adopt health and fitness in their daily lifestyles by the means of running,” Soman said, “It is for every woman who has been neglecting her health for various reasons. She needs to take out a little bit of time in the day for herself, not just for her physical health, but also for her mental health and emotional balance.”
