KATHMANDU, July 12: Senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has announced to quit opposition alliance in view of the Supreme Court's decision to reinstate the dissolved parliament.

Senior leader Nepal said that he will now not be part of the opposition alliance as the context in which he had collaborated with the opposition parties had changed following apex court's mandamus in the name of Office of President to appoint Nepali Congress(NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba as new prime minister by Tuesday evening.

Speaking during a meeting of the opposition alliance held in Koteshwar on Monday evening shortly after the apex court's verdict, Nepal had said that he will no longer be part of the meeting of the opposition alliance. "Efforts are underway to save the unity of our party. Tentative agreement has also been reached recently. It needs to be seen how the agreement will be implemented," a participant in the meeting quoted Nepal as saying.

Leaders close to senior leader Nepal said they decided to be part of the opposition alliance to reinstate parliament dissolved by Prime Minister K P Oli at his whim. "The alliance is no longer relevant with the party unity and reinstatement of parliament. We will no longer be part of the opposition alliance.

A total of 26 lawmakers close to senior leader Nepal had provided their signatures to elect NC President Deuba as the new prime minister. Although the court has issued mandamus to appoint Deuba as new Prime Minister, Deuba won't be able to secure majority votes in parliament without support of UML lawmakers. New government must secure majority seats in parliament within a month.
