Seven injured in lighting strike, hailstorm destroys paddy fields

ACHHAM, April 28: At least seven persons were injured in lighting strike on Friday in Mangalsen municipality. 



In the thunderstorm accompanied with rain and hail, Manisha Bhat, of ward no 5 fell unconscious for a few hours after getting jolted by the strike and later regained consciousness, police said. Six others who suffered minor injuries have already returned home after treatment. 



Meanwhile, flooding in the local Chari river at Siudi area of Chaurparti rural municipality – 1 has killed six goats. More than 100 goats were rescued during the flashflood, according to Achham's Police Chief, Dadhiram Neupane.



The sudden deluge has also inflicted losses to farmers. Ramroshan rural municipality's farmer, Gita Saud, said she incurred a great loss in the hailstorm that destroyed her paddy field and crops. "The harvest-ready rice paddies have been destroyed by the hailstorm, I am worried as to what I will now eat." Another famer, Maniraj Bhattarai, from Mallekh rural municipality shared that the hailstorm which dropped around half a kilo of hail has destroyed the vegetables and paddy. RSS
