Flood triggered by incessant rainfall causes loss worth millions in Gaighat

UDAYAPUR, July 2: Hundreds of houses and shops in Gaighat Bazar area in Udaypur district were inundated due to the flood triggered by incessant rainfall since Friday night. 


The food stuffs kept in the shops have been damaged, incurring losses worth over Rs 50 million, local shopkeepers said.

According to Tilak Khadka, Proprietor of a shop in Asari line, shared that their houses and shops were submerged into water due to incessant rainfall. 


Shops at Shantinagar Tole, Jyoti Tole, Prathibha Tole and major market areas and houses at Old Bus Park area, Sangamchowk and Pipalchowk were inundated, according to another shopkeeper Deepak Karki. 


The affected locals bemoan that most of the household items were damaged after the flood water entered their houses. 


Ramesh BK, President of Triyuga Chamber of Commerce and Industry informed that a team is monitoring and conducting an on-site study since this morning to assess the extent of damages caused by the flood. 


Details of the damages are being collected, according to President BK.
