CHITWAN, Jan 4: ‘Shreeman Bahadur’, a story from litterateur Ram Lal Joshi’s book ‘Aina’ has been transformed into a play. A group called Karmi Natya is performing the play at the Narayani Kala Mandir in Narayangadh since Wednesday.

This drama is about the story of Bahadur Tharu from Kailali. In the beginning of the story, rickshaw puller Bir Bahadur gets thrashed by the police as a non-gazetted officer is trying to get him arrested without any reason. That’s when Premlata shows up to save him. The play tries to show Premlata’s past and her relationship with Bir Bahadur.

Karmi Natya plans to raise some funds through the play, directed by Dhismaraj Joshi, in order to establish a theatre called Bharatpur Natak Ghar. The drama is being showcased two times a day — at 1 pm and 4 pm — and the tickets cost Rs 200 and Rs 500, said Mukunda Khalpatra, organizer of the drama.

He added that Chitwan resident would support their mission of establishing a theatre in the local area. Actors Suresh Joshi and Kripa Adhikari are the leads of the 50-minute long drama while Bhishma Uppreti, Bibek Tiwari, Tilak Aacharya and Anjana Dhungana are also playing supporting roles.

Lyricist Prem Binod Nananda said, “It is not an easy task to impress the audience through plays whose stories have already been published.  The actors along with the director have done justice to the story.”

The play is slated to continue for four days.
