Shyam Bahadur Pandey, founder of Hotel Shangri-La, passes away

KATHMANDU, July 22: Shyam Bahadur Pandey, the founder and chairman of the five-star Hotel Shangri-La in Lazimpat, has passed away. He was 88 years old. Pandey died on Monday at Grande International Hospital after a prolonged period of health issues.

KATHMANDU, July 22: Shyam Bahadur Pandey, the founder and chairman of the five-star Hotel Shangri-La in Lazimpat, has passed away. He was 88 years old. Pandey died on Monday at Grande International Hospital after a prolonged period of health issues.


Pandey, a prominent figure in the hotel industry, dedicated over 60 years to the development and advancement of tourism and hospitality in Nepal. He established Hotel Shangrila four decades ago, cementing his legacy as a pioneer in the field.

According to family sources, Pandey’s body will be kept at his residence for public viewing until 2 PM today. The cremation will take place at Pashupati Aryaghat at 4PM.


 He is survived by a wife, two sons, and a daughter.
