Souls of my city: A satisfied life

They shifted from Sindhupalchowk to Pokhari Daada with their two daughters 15 years ago. Gwamey Shrestha does not know his exact age. He says he is more than 80 years old. He happened to lose his left eye 20 years ago. While working on a farm, he rubbed his eye which resulted in a scratch in the eye that gradually impaired his vision.

He happened to lose his left eye 20 years ago. While working on a farm, he rubbed his eye which resulted in a scratch in the eye that gradually impaired his vision.

 “I went to the eye hospital at Tripureshwar several times, but every time I was told that the machine did not work. I then got tired of going to the hospital,” said Gwamey.


Suntali Shrestha, 80, picks up mugwort and sells it at Swayambhu to use it as incense. “She cooks food and also fulfills our basic needs while I sit home because of my weakness”, said Gwamey. As senior citizens of society, they were supposed to get their allowances. But because of a lesser age featured in their citizenship cards, they could not get it. Yet that they have very contended with their life. They are happy with whatever they have.
