It has been three days since Gamveera Sahani, a 72 year-old farmer, was admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. He complained of chest ache after which he was hospitalized. He was with his second wife Phulkesia Devi. The couple travelled to Kathmandu only for Gamveera’s health checkup. Phulkesia is not very happy with the way they were treated at the hospital. She especially remembers an occasion when one of the staff threw away Gamveera’s check up reports mistakenly. Phulkesia married Gamveera after he lost his first wife. “Since there was nobody to take care of his seven children (from his first wife), he married me after her demise. On the other hand I was also alone. I had already lost my parents,” said Phulkesia. Phulkesia is her real name. However her name was printed as Dukhia in the citizenship card. They have a very large family extending to 142 members. It was the second time that Gamveera visited Kathmandu. They said that even though there are hospitals in Sarlahi, they lack good doctors and updated medical facilities.
