KANCHANPUR, March 25: Sacked Superintendent of Police (SP) Dilli Raj Bista, who surrendered before the District Court (DC), Kanchapur last week, has been released on bail following the court’s order on Sunday.
Bista had to post a bail amount of Rs 400,000 for tampering the evidence in the Nirmala Panta rape and murder case and Rs 600,000 for torturing the suspects of the case. A single bench Judge Rajendra Kumar Acharya ordered Bista’s release on bail.
“He has been freed after paying the bail amount demanded by the court,” said Registrar of the court Harikrishna Awasthi. Bista started recording his statement since Tuesday immediately after presenting himself before the court.
Suspended DSP GC surrenders before court
On March 6, the Office of the Attorney General had registered an FIR against eight police personnel including SP Bista and DSP Angur GC for tampering evidences and torturing the suspects.
On March 14, six police personnel who surrendered themselves before the court were released on bail following the order of the court. DSP Gyan Bahadur Sethi and Inspector Ekendra Bahadur Khadka were released after posting a bail of Rs 500,000 each for torturing the suspects and Rs 400,000 for destroying the evidences. They both had to submit Rs 900,000 each.
Likewise, Inspector Jagdish Bhatta had to pay Rs 400,000 and Sub-Inspector Hari Singh Dhami paid Rs 350,000 for destroying evidences. Similarly, Sub-Inspector Ram Bahadur Dhami and constable Chandani Saud posted Rs 300,000 and Rs 250,000 respectively.
Earlier, the district court had issued arrest warrants against SP Bista and suspended DSP of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) Angur GC who is still at large.
Two months ago, Nirmala’s mother Durgadevi Panta had filed a case against these eight police personnel. Even after seven months of the incident, police have failed to find any reliable evidence against the culprits involved in the rape and murder of thirteen-year-old Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur.
