KATHMANDU, July 3: A meeting was held between Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker of Malaysia, Mohd Rashid Hasnon on Saturday evening during a conference of the parliamentary network of non-aligned movement in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
According to Govinda Pathak, Sapkota's personal secretary, during the meeting, Speaker Sapkota said that bilateral relations between Nepal and Malaysia have been friendly and cordial since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, adding that both the countries believed in the policy of non-alignment and were committed to the ideals of the United Nations.

Talking about Malaysia being a major trading partner of Nepal, Sapkota stressed the possibility of tourism promotion between the two countries. He said that a direct air link between the capitals of the two countries, which started in March 2003, has made it easier to bring the citizens of the two countries closer.
Similarly, Deputy Speaker of Malaysia Mohd Rashid Hasnon said that Nepal is a good friend of Malaysia and expressed happiness over the meeting with the Speaker and the Nepali parliamentary delegation.
The members of the Nepali delegation Pushpa Bhusal Gautam, Ram Chandra Rai and Personal Secretary to the Speaker Govinda Pathak were present in the meeting.
