At the function, Swarnim Wagle, member of the National Planning Commission stressed on the need of making foreign destinations safer unless new job opportunities are created within the country in the long-run. “Close to 30 percent revenue contribution is because of remittance from migrants. Even if you do miracle in job creation in the long-run, we have to make migration safer till then,” said Wagle.

In the last decade, the EU has taken major steps toward building a truly comprehensive migration policy, based on common political principles and solidarity.

The European Union funds a number of migration-related programs aimed at facilitating and enhancing the management of labor migration between South and Southeast Asia and selected countries in the EU, and supports mechanisms and awareness leading to safe migration, but also ensures continuing policy dialogue in line with the Global Approach to Migration and Mobility.
