KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Dipendra Karki of Surkhet has bagged ‘Krishi Tara Award’. The award provided jointly by the Embassy of Israel and Avsar foundation – an NGO initiated by Khetan Family – aims at honoring deserving Nepali farmers or agri-entrepreneurs contributing in agriculture sector through use of innovations, technologies and skills learnt in Israel under ‘Learn and Earn Program’. The award carrying a purse of Rs 500,000 and a certificate was handed over to Karki amid a ceremony held on Thursday.
“I will leave no stone unturned to do the best in agriculture with the finest and applicable practices of Israel. After receiving this award, I have a strong urge to do better work in the agri sector for my community and the nation in the days to come,” said Dipendra Karki, owner of Karki Farm, said.

The Embassy of Israel in cooperation with Small Farmer Development Microfinance Financial Institute Limited started this yearlong advanced agricultural training in 2013. Around 2,700 Nepali youths, associated with the aforementioned institute, have already participated in the training. This year, 540 students are participating in the same training.
“I really appreciate all the farmers who were stimulated by the knowledge, skills and experience they gained from Israel and have started implementing their knowhow here in Nepal with the significant amount of money they saved in Israel,” Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, Benny Omer, said at the event. “This is a great contribution to modernization of agriculture sector of Nepal. Besides, it helps to shape their future and is an important element in national economy too,” he added.
