NEPALGUNJ, Aug 13: Water from the Rapti River entered nearby settlements as the river swelled due to continuous rainfall.
SP and chief of District Police Office, Banke, Arun Paudel said that they had already alerted residents in the settlements to move away for safety. “We have also informed the police units for necessary supports,” he said.

According to a measurement by Flood Measurement Center at Kusum, water level reached 4m, 30cm in the river. Water levels are likely to increase due to incessant downpour. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had also issued a warning of potential floods in the Chure region for the next three days.
The flood has also swept cattle and trees, according to Inspector Padam Oli of Area Police Office, Kusum.
When the water level reaches 5 meters, a siren is played in order to aware the villagers residing nearby the river bank.
The natural flow of the river has been interrupted after India constructed Laxmanpur Dam and Kalkalawa embankment.
