Taplejung experiences snowfall, farmers happy over timely shower

PHUNGLING, May 3: Highlands in Taplejung received a snowfall coupled with rains on Monday and Tuesday. Ghunsa, Phale, Olangchung Gola and Yanga of Phaktanglung rural municipality witnessed the snowfall. According to Tasi Chhiring Sherpa of Ghunsa, the snowfall occurred in the area last night, too.

PHUNGLING, May 3: Highlands in Taplejung received a snowfall coupled with rains on Monday and Tuesday. Ghunsa, Phale, Olangchung Gola and Yanga of Phaktanglung rural municipality witnessed the snowfall. According to Tasi Chhiring Sherpa of Ghunsa, the snowfall occurred in the area last night, too.


Tenzing Walung of Olangchung Gola said snow has piled up to two feet in Yanga. Yanga, the part of Olangchung Gola, lies at an altitude of 4,200 meters.

Similarly, a tripoint of Taplehung, Terhathum and Sankhuwasabha districts and Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale of Maiwakhola rural municipality in the district reported the snowfall. In addition to this, the people of Mikwakhola and Sidingawa said they could see the snowfall in the highlands.  However, this year snowfall is relatively less compared to the previous year.


Farmers here are happy over the rains and snowfall as they take it as a favor from nature during the season for crops cultivation. They said that it has been a boon to cash crops such as cardamom farming and vegetable farming.
