Three of seven arrested in connection with the Lalita Niwas land grab scam released

Former EC Commissioner Shah and Bhatbhateni Supermarket owner Gurung are among those arrested

KATHMANDU, June 27: Three individuals, who were arrested in connection with the Lalita Niwas land grab scam on Tuesday, have been released by the police after providing necessary documents.


Former Joint Secretary Kaladhar Deuja, former Under Secretary Hupendramani KC, and Surendra Kapali were released within a few hours of their arrest on Tuesday. Their release comes after the Supreme Court issued an interim order on July 19, instructing the authorities to investigate the individuals without arresting them and keeping them out of custody.

Upon presenting the evidence of the SS's interim order, police released them, providing them with the necessary documents. Police stated that the investigation will proceed while keeping the three individuals out of custody.


On Tuesday, a total of seven people were arrested in relation to the Lalita Niwas land grab scam. Among them, former Commissioner of the Election Commission Sudhir Kumar Shah, Director of Bhatbhateni Supermarket Min Bahadur Gurung, Surendraman Kapali, Dharma Prasad Gautam, and Gopal Karki remain in police custody.
