KATHMANDU, May 20: Three Star Academy and Shivam New Diamond Academy have advanced into the semifinals of the ongoing first Chandragiri Deputy-mayor Cup School-level Open Girls’ Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
In the quarterfinal match played in ‘best of three’ format, Usha Sripali and Yamuna Rasaili’s brilliant performances helped Three Star come back from behind to win the last two sets. Three Star beat Saint Davis Academy 21-25, 25-21, 25-11 to reach the last four.

Likewise, in the other quarterfinal match, New Diamond defeated Kanya Mandir Higher Secondary School on straight sets of 25-11, 25-4 to secure its place in semifinals.
In the other quarterfinal matches played on the same day, Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya and Paramount Academy also registered victories to make it to the last fours.
Bijeshwori saw off Gyan Sudha Academy 25-10, 25-12 on straight sets, while Paramount overcame Springdale English School 25-8, 25-16 to reach the semis.
The winner of the tournament, which will conclude on May 22, will take home Rs 45,000, while the runner-up will be rewarded with Rs 25,000. Also, the third-placed team will get Rs 15,000 and the fourth-placed team will be prized with Rs 10,000. The organizers had further informed that the best player of the tournament along with the best spiker, the best blocker, the best server, the best defender and the best setter will also be rewarded with cash prizes.
After the conclusion of the tournament, a game between New Diamond and the departmental team Armed Police Force will be played as ‘Volleyball Day Celebration’ to mark the day when the government headed by the then CPN (Maoist Center) leader had declared volleyball as the national game a year ago.
The winner of that game will be rewarded with Rs 10,000, and the runner-up will be prized with Rs 7,000.
