KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The deadline to submit applications to operate duty-free shops at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been extended by 30 days.

The airport office initially published a notice on November 20, 2023, inviting open competition for the duty-free shop operation with a 30-day deadline. Due to insufficient applications during this period, the office extended the deadline by an additional 15 days until January 4. Subsequently, the notice has been reissued with an extra 30 days from January 4.

Tenders have been invited for the operation of duty-free shops, covering a total area of 109.91 square meters within the airport. This includes 26.11 square meters on the first floor on the departure side and 78.8 square meters near the immigration on the arrival side.

The duty-free shop operation contract is set for five years, with a minimum rent fixed at Rs 151.5 million. Starting from the second year, the amount of the year when the work was completed will be deducted from the total contract amount. The remaining amount will be automatically increased in proportion to the price increase index determined by the Nepal Rastra Bank.
