KATHMANDU, Aug 21: A revised protocol has been implemented at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, impacting the vehicular access of VIP guests from the airport's premises to the aircraft's parking area. Notably, VIP guests will no longer have the privilege of using their personal vehicles for this purpose.

In line with the updated regulations, VIP guests will now be escorted to the aircraft by the respective airline's VIP vehicle, accompanied by security personnel. Director at the TIA Teknath Sitaula clarified that the directive stems from the "Procedures 2080 BS" governing ultra-specific/specific traffic management.

This signifies a shift from the previous practice where former prime ministers, party leaders, chairpersons, and ministers were able to personally drive their vehicles up to the aircraft. Such access is now discontinued as part of the new procedures.

However, in case of VVIP guests, transportation arrangements have been arranged with dedicated security escorts, ensuring a seamless experience.

To facilitate the implementation of these changes, TIA has introduced a system to register VIP vehicles entering restricted zones. A pass for access to the restricted area will be issued at the domestic terminal, an hour prior to the scheduled departure of the high-ranking individual.

TIA has emphasized the importance of adhering to airline check-in procedures and conducting luggage safety checks well in advance, underscoring the airport's commitment to ensuring a secure and efficient travel environment.
