SANKHUWASABHA, July 25: Locals of Silonchong Rural Municipality-3 of Sankhuwasabha district have been facing threats from tigers since months. Tigers have been entering Yachamkha and Lakuwa villages of the rural municipality to prey on goats and pigs.
Since July 11 this year, tigers have killed seven goats and two pigs in the two villages, according to Hari Kumar Kulung, a local of Yamchamkha.

“We have been feeling increasingly terrorized after tigers started to eat up our goats and pigs,” he added.
According to him, a lone tiger usually attacks the shed where goats are kept but takes away only one of them. “But even the injured goats are not in a condition to live,” said Kulung.
Sanjeev Gupta, acting chief conservation officer of Makalu Barun National Park, said the government would compensate all the families who lost their cattle to tigers.
“They just have to submit an application along with proof that their domesticated animals were killed by tiger. Then, the victims would receive full compensation,” he said.
The national park office informed that compensation could range up to Rs 10,000 and could be higher depending on the size of the cattle. The office has urged the locals not to venture into the forest alone and not carry out activities that may provoke wild animals.
