JAJARKOT, Nov 28: A one-year-old toddler in Jarajkot is forced to stay inside prison with his mother since the past 16 days.

After the District Police Officer, Jajarkot, arrested Bhawani Rana, 27, for the alleged murder of her mother-in-law on November 10, her toddler was also forced into prison. The child, who refuses to stay with anyone else but his mother, is forced to stay in the prison.

Rana had allegedly hit her mother-in-law with a bottle after disagreement to split Rs 6,000 that they had earned by selling a water mill. That incident claimed the life of her mother-in-law.

Local stakeholders have argued that the child's stay at the cell was an infringement of child rights and that necessary arrangement should be made for the child.

Rana, arrested with her child, has been kept in custody for further investigation. Her case is yet to be registered due to the ongoing elections.

While no special arrangements had been made for the child, Bhawesh Rimal, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the district police office, said he is allowed to bask in the sun, play around and stay with his mother.
