KATHMANDU, March 21: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokhrel has said the Nepal Communist Party ( NCP)’s unification process at local levels was taking more time than expected as a consensus could not be forged for same.

Speaking at the state-level (State 3) party gathering organised by the Madan Bhandari Foundation here today, he said the unification process was delayed due to lack of a consensus at the local levels.

NCP’s secretariat member Pokhrel stressed the need of finding a clear way for taking the unification process ahead. He was of the view that unification process would be easier if local levels themselves come up with a consensus towards that end. “Some of them, however, are agreed.”

Recalling that the then CPN (UML) was moving ahead by adopting the line of people’s multiparty democracy, he said continuity of good practices in both parties was necessary to find a clear way and vision to deal with the unification issues.“But this is not happening, confusion persists, instead. Unclear views will never take us to the destination.”

As he said, the government is seeking to work as per the people’s aspirations and formulations of new acts and laws was the need of time and government had to focused on such need in its initial days.

It may be noted that the then CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) had merged to form the NCP in last May, but the total unification is awaited.
