BIRENDRANAGAR, Feb 2: The traffic police in Karnali Province have increased inspection due to the rising number of accidents in recent times. They are more closely monitoring vehicles to improve road safety.
Traffic activity has increased throughout the province including the capital of Karnali Province. It has been stated that after analyzing the accidents that have happened in the province in recent times, the areas prone to accidents have been identified and are being monitored. The traffic police have upped their vigilance to punish drink and driving and are checking if the drivers have the documents such as license, blue book etc.
'Time card' in place after rise in accidents
The traffic police have stepped up their efforts to crack down on drunk driving. They have increased the number of daily checks from one or two locations to five.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Prajwal Maharjan, the head of the Karnali Province's Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, announced that the traffic police have upped vigilance on the major roads of the province. According to Maharjan, there has been a noticeable increase in traffic in the region and drivers and passengers are becoming more conscious of issues like drunk driving due to the increased checks.
The traffic police are conducting one-minute sessions with drivers during which they discuss various road safety topics, such as not drinking and driving, not using cell phones while driving, stopping for pedestrians, making sure there's enough seating space in the vehicle, having more than one driver for long trips, wearing shoes while driving, clarifying fare with passengers, and checking for any issues during the journey.
