KATHMANDU, Aug 5: In response to students' feedback expressing discomfort with English medium question papers, Tribhuvan University (TU) has taken the initiative to provide question papers in both English and Nepali languages for the Bachelor's level. This decision comes as many campuses conduct classes in the Nepali medium, making it challenging for students to adapt to English-only exam papers.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dharmakant Baskota confirmed that TU has actively prepared for this change, and it will be implemented starting from the next academic session. However, there are concerns about accommodating multiple languages, including students' mother tongues. Dr. Baskota addressed this issue during a meeting with the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives.

"While we are considering incorporating both English and Nepali languages in the question papers, it may not be feasible to include every student's mother tongue due to the vast diversity of languages spoken in our country. We aim to adhere to international standards by primarily offering questions in English, with the addition of Nepali language options," explained Vice-Chancellor Dr. Baskota.

It is worth noting that Nepal boasts 123 native languages, highlighting the complexities of introducing questions in various mother tongues. The university is committed to exploring feasible ways to strike a balance between inclusivity and adhering to global academic norms.

Tribhuvan University, the largest educational institution in Nepal, currently serves approximately 347,269 students across 1,124 constituent and 62 affiliated campuses.
